Simone Maynard

AUSTRALIA

Simone Maynard has been championing sake and Japanese culture across Australia and beyond for over a decade. Her deep appreciation for Japan’s craftsmanship and traditions began during her time living in Japan in 2003, where her background as a graphic artist and love for woodblock prints and manga naturally evolved into a lifelong passion for sake.

In 2022, Simone was awarded the honorary title of Sake Samurai, recognising her remarkable contributions to global sake education and promotion. She is the host and founder of Taste with the Toji — an international online series connecting brewers and enthusiasts through conversations that celebrate craftsmanship, culture, and community.

Simone also serves as a speaker and curator at sake festivals and seminars worldwide, where she shares her insight into the flavours, stories, and people that make sake one of Japan’s most soulful exports.
