Established in 2021, Tanoke is housed in a beautifully conserved shophouse at 7 Purvis Street, easily recognizable by its brightly red window amid the row of traditional facades. Here, traditional architecture meets contemporary design, creating a perfect blend that mirrors our culinary philosophy.

Located near the vibrant Bugis and City Hall districts, our restaurant offers a setting ideal for romantic dates, group gatherings, birthdays, anniversaries, and corporate events. HEAD CHEF RIO NEO

Chef Rio's philosophy is simple - "Cook from the heart, enjoy the process, and your guests will feel it."

 

His culinary journey began at his parents' humble economic bee hoon stall in a local hawker centre. From there, he honed his skills at renowned establishments like Fat Cow, Kinki, and Kabuke. Now, as the head chef at Tanoke, Chef Rio masterfully blends traditional Japanese techniques with innovative flavours, crafting a cutting-edge repertoire of contemporary Japanese cuisine.

With profound respect for Japanese culinary traditions, Chef Rio was a finalist at Japan's World Washoku Challenge in both 2015 and 2016. At Tanoke, he continuously redefines traditional washoku, creating a menu that is adventurous, playful, and rich in umami - perfectly complementing our distinguished sake selection.

Highlighting our culinary approach is the Shichirin Binchotan Grill, which employs white charcoal for precise, high-heat grilling, perfect for enhancing the flavours of premium cuts like Sanchoku Wagyu, A4 Ohmi Ribeye, and A5 Kyushu Tenderloin.

 

Our menu also offers delicacies such as Hamachi Carpaccio, Otoro Aburi Handrolls, and Inari & Foie Gras Gunkan. Join us to discover the elegance of Japanese cooking in our contemporary setting.
